Ancient Greek Influence in Modern World

The ancient Greek culture went through series of evolution over many years and has been generally considered the foundation the cultures exhibited by most modern world cultures. The renown Greek thinkers, philosophers, architects, and other specialists created the basis of studies in fields as mathematics, literature, art, astrology, governance, and most importantly medicine. I consider medicine their magnum opus since it is a key element of the human life in the world, without which humanity and race could be obliterated entirely. The Ancient Greeks created a standard system of medicine such as diagnostic methods, prognosis, and morality and ethics in medical practitioners (“the role of ancient Greek philosophy and medicine,” n.d.). This paper provides an in-depth analysis of ancient Greek influence on medicine.

Medicine contribution by Hippocrates is; Hippocratic Oath, diagnosis of health status, and treatments. Generally, the Ancient Greek’s medical practices were oriented on natural perspective and treatment of ailments, patient’s health at the center, mental autonomy, and the corporation of individuals into surrounding seen in the Hippocratic Oath (“Health care practices in ancient Greece,” n.d.). The Ancient Greeks developed the realization that maintenance of sound health and fighting diseases relied on natural bases and made a link between health and disease and social and physical surroundings and human mannerisms. Modern health care and practices are based on Greek consideration of the importance of mental and physical health; reoriented to focus on fair, humane, and efficient practices. State-paid doctors to care for the poor was instituted, humanistic approach created by Hippocratic Oath has had a very positive impact on human life on earth. Generally, Ancient Greeks influenced the establishment of medicine by the development of medical terms, classification, and disease management.
